Report
As part of our academic/legal training, FMT department of Omar Homoeopathic Medical College and RC visited the Sessions Court on 16, 18 and 20 September 2025 at District & Session Court Samarth Nagar, Jalna – 431203.
The purpose of the visit was to gain practical insight into the functioning of the criminal justice system, observe courtroom proceedings, and understand the role of various legal professionals in real-time in parallel to medical practice.
-
We observed the procedural aspects of criminal trials and understood the hierarchy and structure of the criminal courts.
-
Witnessed the roles of judges, prosecutors, defence lawyers, court clerks, and other officials.
-
The visit helped in connecting theoretical legal knowledge with practical application.
-
Observed several important proceedings: Framing of Charges, Examination of Witnesses, Bail Hearings, Adjournments, and Case Listings. Many cases were listed for procedural hearings, and several were adjourned due to the absence of parties or pending reports.
-
Noted the role of legal aid counsel in assisting underprivileged accused persons.
-
Observed heavy reliance on documentation, police records, and oral testimony. Students gained practical exposure to legal language and formalities used in court and observed real challenges like case backlog and delayed justice.
-
Understood the importance of evidence and procedural compliance in criminal cases and how the medical system can support the legal system.
The visit to the Sessions Court was an enriching experience that bridged the gap between medical education and practical courtroom dynamics. It provided a first-hand understanding of how justice is administered in serious criminal cases and emphasized the responsibilities of legal professionals in upholding the rule of law.
We are grateful to Chairperson Mr. Huzeefa Maulana, other trustee members, Principal Prof. Dr. Hasina Mhaishale Madam, and other organising members for such an academic visit.
